How Do We Know What Works in Preventing Violent Extremism? Evidence and Trends in Evaluation from 14 Countries

Strategies and measures to prevent extremism can be found in countries in all regions of the world today. However, without a solid evidence base and careful consideration of the (un)intended effects, prevention measures can do more harm than good. This report provides an overview of extremist phenomena, prevention practice, and evaluation of extremism prevention and related fields in 14 countries worldwide. Based on an online survey of experts, it provides an overview of current challenges and innovations, as well as recommendations for the further development of evaluation practice in the German context.
