P/CVE-Evaluation in International Comparison

Recap: Workshop on P/CVE Evaluation in International Comparison

On March 12, 2025, the Global Public Policy Institute (GPPi) invited experts from academia and practice to an online workshop to discuss the initial results of the second international expert survey on the evaluation of extremism prevention measures.

The event provided a platform for international exchange on current developments in the extremism landscape, as well as challenges and promising approaches to evaluation. The 19 participants from the case study countries of the survey and the PrEval research network contributed perspectives from a total of eight countries. The PrEval team at GPPi presented the current survey results to the experts and highlighted parallels and differences with the results of the first survey wave in 2023. The ensuing discussion served to validate key hypotheses and gather input on new challenges in the field — including the rise of anti-state and hybrid extremism, as well as reasons for a possible stagnation of the evaluation field. The group also discussed how the survey results can contribute to the design of future evaluation approaches and support the evidence-based development of prevention measures.

The discussion provided valuable input for the planned third survey wave in 2025 and the design of the report on the results of the second survey wave. These will build on the already published results of the first survey wave and a case study on capacity building in the evaluation of extremism prevention.

The PrEval team at GPPi would like to thank all participants for their commitment and looks forward to continuing the exchange.
