Digitally Supported Evaluation of Digital Projects in Civic Education
Digitally Supported Evaluation of Digital Projects in Civic Education
Digital formats such as serious games, escape rooms and web videos are becoming increasingly important in civic education. They create new access to new target groups, open up innovative learning and participation opportunities and enable flexible, location-independent learning. This became particularly clear during the coronavirus pandemic.
The evaluation of such digital educational offers poses special challenges: Digital settings change the nature of interaction, increase anonymity and bring with them new data protection aspects. At the same time, they offer opportunities for complex surveys and improved documentation of evaluation processes.
This pilot study used a systematic literature review and qualitative interviews with researchers and practitioners to examine the opportunities, challenges and tried-and-tested methodological approaches of digitally supported evaluation. Furthermore, the report presentations of methods that have been developed in disciplines like media and communication sciences and could be useful in evaluating digital civic education. The presentations of methods were provided by external authors.
The results offer practical recommendations on how digital tools can be specifically integrated into evaluation processes and what is needed to support the quality and further development of the entire field.
Publications
The study is an important building block in the PrEval network and will be taken up and discussed in various PrEval publications, such as the PrEval Monitor 2024.
A detailed presentation can be found in our PrEval Study.
The new edition of the PrEval Monitor as well as the DeZIM Policy Paper #05 also provide insights into cooperation with professional practice.
